Kraak & Smaak at Doug Fir

Dutch breaks trio, Kraak & Smaak will be bringing their formidable live band to Doug Fir on Tuesday November 25th.  The Portland date was a last minute addition to their North American tour so get the word out there and make time to see these Dutch Masters!  They’re touring on the back of their recent album, Plastic People, which saw the band mix “banjo twang, disco suave synths, hints of a string orchestra, gypsy-tinged clarinet melody and soulful broken beat.”  Opening is Portland’s own, Afro Q ben.

Tuesday November 25
Doors 8pm, Show 9pm
$13 advance, $15 day of show.

  1. Sweet!!! I want to give myself a small pat on the back…it probably had nothing to do with it but I was harassing them on their myspace for skipping Portland…especially when other stops on their tour don’t have radio support like they do here from your show. Why do all the good shows stop here on weekdays tho 🙁

  2. No doubt! We’ve been playing them on commercial radio longer than anyone. I know that they are stoked with the air-play we give them but Portland always plays second fiddle to cities like Seattle/SF and LA when they only do a couple of shows on the West Coast. It is what it is, so we can just be happy that they are coming at all! Thanks for harassing them from you end though. 🙂

  3. Josh, Mike – thanks to both you guys for helping them come. I dragged myself to the show (weeknight; had a lot of stuff going on) but it was AWESOME!

First of all, I think there is little music like theirs out there (playful, cheeky takes on soul-funk). Second, they brought their own sound guy and the production was phenomenal! I’m not a huge dancer but they had the whole floor going! I’m SO glad I didn’t miss this because like you said, Portland doesn’t get its fair share of electronic shows…
